Community is at the heart of all I wish to do with the Happy Map. I have been exceptionally lucky to have had my little shop and subsequently was ingratiated in a strong community in Margate but I am acutely aware of how hard that can be for some to find. We have, as a nation, become very insular in recent years for various reasons, finding it harder than ever to find our kindred spirits and connect. I hope to be able to ease this process for us all.

Whilst in the planning phases for the Joyage I wish to galvanise local communities into sharing their top hits for happy places to visit but also unite such joy seekers by hosting in person and online events. Having suffered myself with severe social anxiety for a few years (it is something we manage and never conquer, I feel) I wish to make these events active and playful, with games or inspiring speakers, creating a safe space for us to flourish, rather than awkwardly shuffling about feeling shy!

I will be opening up a subscription group called the ‘Joy Scouts’ in the November 2023 ~ a veritable troop of merry souls who wish to spread a little happiness throughout their community and connect with others. As I travel around the U.K. I will be hosting in person ‘Buddy Clubs’ where we will gather and make new acquaintances in a fun and friendly environment.
